APPLICATION FOR TRAINING
Contained within our Printable Data File Index link are application forms for three categories of Instructor Training. All of these forms may be downloaded from our
PDF link They are:
• The Initial (for original appointments)
• The Add-On (for adding disciplines to your menu)
• The Re-Newal (for re-newing lapsed appointments)
All categories require advance registration of at least 15 working days prior to the selected date(s) for your training session(s). Each course application form contains the costs for that category. Our costs consist of:
• The Instruction Fee
• The Testing Fee
• The Materials
All courses require Payment-in-advance with the application. Upon receipt at the School Office of a valid registration, we will prepare (assemble) a package of all required materials, required homework assignments, class room assignment and directions to that class room. This package will then be forwarded to the candidate. Upon receipt of the package, the candidate will thoroughly review all material and complete all homework assignments PRIOR to class session(s). All homework assignments will be turned in to the Instructor at the beginning of the first class session and they will be reviewed as appropriate during the class session(s). All class room sessions will be 'Instructor Led Student Participation'.
SCHEDULE AND CLASS LOCATION
A comprehensive schedule of routinely conducted classes is provided in our Schedule of Classes link. Our Official Schedule of Classes (current issue) may also be downloaded from our Data File link. Our schedule contains a goodly measure of dates for classes. There are four (or more) starting dates for Instructor training listed every month. These dates are listed under the acronym of "Instr".
All scheduled classes will be held in The Blue Stag School Inc class room facilities in the Chelmsford Massachusetts Area unless otherwise noted or approved.
ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS OF
THE INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE
There are three levels of appointment for Firearms Instructors that are issued by the National Rifle Association of America. These appointments are:
• The Apprentice (Ages 13 - 17)
• The Assistant (Ages 18 - 20)
• The Certified (Ages 21 and older)
All levels must qualify by training. All levels may participate in the activities of the Training Team - each performing within their own level of skill. It should be stated, however, that only the Certaified Instructor may "certify to training performed".
The Blue Stag School Inc provides quality training to its candidates who are vying for appointment as NRA Instructors. Since the School does not normally train Instructor Candidates in and to a shooting skill, it must establish a skill level requirement as a guideline for Instructor Training certifiction. The Blue Stag School Inc will not accept a non-shooter as a condidate for instructor appointment training.
Each Instructor Candidate must therefore have attained the required skill level prior to application. And, the required skill level must separately be attained for each and every firearms discipline that the candidate is vying to teach. Exceptions may be granted for Apprentice level candidates. Our guideline levels of qualification are as follows.
• NRA BASIC RIFLE SHOOTING INSTRUCTOR - The instructor candidate must consistantly score a 7, or better, with each shot on an A-1, A-5 or A-17 target at 50 feet.
• NRA BASIC PISTOL SHOOTING INSTRUCTOR - The instructor candidate must consistantly score a 7, or better, on a B-2 target at 50 feet.
• NRA BASIC SHOTGUN SHOOTING INSTRUCTOR - The instructor candidate must consistantly burst at least 7 out of every 10 clays at straight-away throws.
• NRA BASIC HOME FIREARMS SAFETY INSTRUCTOR - The insttructor candidate, although exceptionally desireable, does not require a shooting skill. However, the candidate should have measureable knowledge in the rifle, the pistol, the shotgjun and in muzzleloading firearms. The HFS instructor is primarily charged with safety in care and storage of ANY firearm that may be found in a home. In addition to security and protection of the firearms from unauthorized handling or use, the HFS instructor must be fully knowledgable in the cleaning and care of all types of firearms.
• NRA BASIC PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME INSTRUCTOR - The instructor candidate must first be an appointed Pistol Instructor to be eligible for this training, Pre-classroom requirements also include the performance (prior to class room session) by the candidate of all of the exercises required by the discipline.
• NRA BASIC MUZZLELOADING SHOOTING INSTRUCTOR - The instructor must be able to score an equivalancy score with each muzzleloading firearm. As a minimum, the instructor should be able to hit the authorized muzzleloading target at 25 feet (or better).
VALIDATION OF SKILL LEVEL
It will not be the policy of The Blue Stag School Inc to challenge the canidate's claims of skill by asking for certified proof or demonstration. However, the right to do so shall be forever reserved. Decisions to disqualify or dismiss candidates or refusal to certify to their training shall be solely invested within the authority of the School's Chief Instructor.
GRADUATES OBJECTIVE
The instructor graduate should always keep in mind that a basic instructor's primary goal is to produce learning in the 'safety of handling and use of firearms' and to provide beneficial learning in the 'introduction of firearms shooting fundamentals'.
REFUNDS AND REPLACEMENTS
The costs of training by The Blue Stag School Inc consist of Instructor Fees
and Materials Cost.
Instructor's fees may be refunded when the School or the Candidate cancels for justifiable cause. Once shipped, materials costs will not be refunded.
Lost materials may be replaced or refunded if reported to the School within two weeks following shipment date.
No-Shows may negate any chance of refund of any sort. No-Shows are failure of the candidate to appear at a scheduled class session without co-ordinated excuse. Such co-ordination must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled date and time of training.
