Frequently
Asked Questions
ETV from VT asks: Do your offer a Tactical Shooting Course?
Answer: No. The Blue Stag School does not offer such a course. We concentrate in the area of CIVIL use of firearms for recreation, competition, hunting and Personal Defense of life and property as defined by the Castle Doctrine in your state's law.
BME from MA asks: Do you allow family attendance at your classes?
Answer: Parents attending with their children sometimes tend to interfere with the Class Instruction. As long as the parent, or any other family member, understands that we cannot condone this, we will permit and welcome family grouping.
PJR from CT asks: Does your PPITH Course offer Street defense?
Answer: No. The PPITH is not a police or combat tactical course. It is only for defense of person or property in the home or other area covered by the Castle Doctrine. It does include the defensive technique of safe rooms and using types of cover.
CJM from MA asks: Do you train 12 year olds for the FID?
Answer: No. However, we do accept ages from 9 and above for Firearms Safety Training. Age 15-17 is the usually age for entry into being issued an FID. For all ages under 18, we do require a parental or guardian waiver of responsibilities for any consequential actions.
LPS from MA asks: Do you allow a father and son attend the same class?
Answer: Yes, however, not without prior considerations. Our experience with family classes is that the father or senior family member often interferes with the training by interjecting comments to his family unfavorable to the benefit of the student and the instructor. As long as the parent agrees to letting the instructor do his job, family groups are entirely welcome.
BWE from NR asks: May parents or guardians monitor classes where their child is in training?
Answer: No. We do not allow monitoring of our classes for any reason. All attendees must register and pay the appropriate fee or cost.
UXI from NY asks: Why must the fee or a deposit be paid in advance of class attendance?
Answer: That is it. Payment in advance usually guarantees attendance and avoids no-shows. We schedule instructors who must be paid.
KKM from MA asks: What are Homework Assignments?
Answer: Homework accomplishes two important results. The first is to force the student to acquaint himself with the material and secondly it cuts down the class room time. Without doing some preparation prior to the class sessions, it would be necessary to have several more class sessions. Homework consists of Review of all materials, completion of all tests, special tasks such as preparing budgets, studies, etc., which if done during the class sessions would take at least 20-30 additional session hours or more. And, the homework may be accoplished leisurely by the student.
VEF from PEI asks: I wish to teach more than one discipline. I have already been appointed to teach rifle, but now I want to also teach pistol. What do I do?
Answer: We have a special program for those instructors whom we call Add-On Instructors. For previously appointed students, we briefly review all of the Organizational, Instructor Team, Fundamentals, and Safety requirements to recoup their memory and then. spend more time on the safety and testing.
ALR from PA asks: Why do you require the instructor candidates to have high skill in each discipline?
Answer: No one should be allowed to try to teach that which they know little or nothing about. It makes no sense. In addition, we will not normally train and instructor candidate to shoot because that is his job and it should be sought with a measure of experience already in hand. We have established a level of skill as a guide to use in gauging a satisfactory measure of skill qualification. There is no general shooting skill level, If you are qualified in pistol shooting skill, this in no way equates to being a skilled shotgun shooter. Therefore, the candidate must be skilled in each discipline that he wishes to teach.
WKM from NH asks: What is the starting time of your classes?
Answer: The usual starting time for classes is at 9 AM sharp, however, we do have some classes scheduled at other hours for the advantage or benefit of shift workers.
FFK of NH asks: I want to attend class with my friend. Will we be assigned to the same class?
Answer: We encourage friends or any other group to attend in the same class. We accept one on one training or groups up to twenty five students. Sometimes even more if the situation is special.
DES from MA asks: Why do we need to provide our full name, date of birth and residential address on our applications?
Answer: Records must be exact when dealing with a sensitive area. Besides, no one lives in a Post Office Box or is offically identified by short or nick names.
